In September 2024, El Telar began working with students at the local high school in Puerto Morelos on the workshop funded by a grant from US non-profit Positive Legacy. The workshop is called “Circles of Creative Expression” and will run through the beginning of December.
En septiembre de 2024, El Telar comenzó a trabajar con estudiantes de la escuela secundaria local en Puerto Morelos en el taller financiado por una subvención de la organización sin fines de lucro estadounidense Positive Legacy. El taller se llama “Círculos de Expresión Creativa” y se llevará a cabo hasta principios de diciembre.
El Telar was founded by León Farias in 2023 as a cultural community center in Puerto Morelos with the mission of “??To arrange and to share permanent and itinerant, artistic and socio-emotional programs for the benefit of all the Puerto Morelos community”. In their first year, they’ve made impressive strides and shared 50 artistic and therapeutic workshops, played host to 11 concerts and one national film series. They’ve hosted cultural activities in public spaces, and schools, always with the purpose of weaving community bonds.
El Telar fue fundado por León Farias en 2023 como un centro cultural comunitario en Puerto Morelos, con la misión de “organizar y compartir programas artísticos y socioemocionales, permanentes e itinerantes, en beneficio de toda la comunidad de Puerto Morelos”. En su primer año, han logrado avances impresionantes y han compartido 50 talleres artísticos y terapéuticos, organizado 11 conciertos y una serie nacional de cine. Han llevado a cabo actividades culturales en espacios públicos y en escuelas, siempre con el propósito de tejer lazos comunitarios.
Every week during Circles of Creative Expression, El Telar staff guides students through the creative process of strategizing, creating, preparing, and executing a musical, which will culminate in multiple live performances in the communities of Puerto Morelos, Central Vallarta, and Leona Vicario.
Cada semana, durante el taller de Círculos de Expresión Creativa, el equipo de El Telar guía a los estudiantes en el proceso creativo de planificar, crear, preparar y ejecutar un musical, que culminará en varias presentaciones en vivo en las comunidades de Puerto Morelos, Central Vallarta y Leona Vicario.
Additionally, there is a significant focus on social-emotional learning through the workshop. The creative process of bringing the musical to life lends itself very well to include topics like interpersonal communication, conflict resolution, and self-esteem building as well.
Además, el taller tiene un enfoque significativo en el aprendizaje socioemocional. El proceso creativo de dar vida al musical se presta muy bien para incluir temas como la comunicación interpersonal, la resolución de conflictos y el fortalecimiento de la autoestima.
Leaders of El Telar are uniquely equipped to teach this workshop due to their professional and artistic backgrounds. León Farias, who founded El Telar is a talented professional musician. Itzel Raquel Hernandez Sauceda is a gifted singer, physical-vocal therapist, and multidisciplinary artist. Citlali Huerta is a clinical psychologist and teaches therapeutic painting workshops and visual art classes. And last, but not least, María Victoria Cesio Carballal is a psychologist and psychotherapist who also incorporates mindfulness meditations.
Los líderes de El Telar están especialmente capacitados para impartir este taller debido a sus antecedentes profesionales y artísticos. León Farias, quien fundó El Telar, es un talentoso músico profesional. Itzel Raquel Hernández Sauceda es una talentosa cantante, terapeuta físico-vocal y artista multidisciplinaria. Citlali Huerta es psicóloga clínica y enseña talleres de pintura terapéutica y clases de arte visual. Y, por último, pero no menos importante, María Victoria Cesio Carballal es psicóloga y psicoterapeuta, e incorpora meditaciones de mindfulness.
I’ve had the distinct pleasure of attending multiple sessions of the workshop and I was very impressed with the preparation El Telar had put into the program. They are very mindful of student’s needs after a long day of classes, and make sure that students are welcomed and have their basic needs met with a light snack and a chance to relax for a few minutes. But things quickly pick up with a series of interactive activities focused on helping students and staff alike to get to know one another and discussing the musical that the students will be creating under the staff’s guidance. I am pleased to see how quickly and how well the students responded to the activities and are able to showcase their personalities and gifts.
He tenido el placer de asistir a varias sesiones del taller y quedé muy impresionado(a) con la preparación que El Telar ha puesto en el programa. Son muy conscientes de las necesidades de los estudiantes después de un largo día de clases y se aseguran de que sean bienvenidos y tengan sus necesidades básicas cubiertas con un refrigerio ligero y la oportunidad de relajarse unos minutos. Pero pronto la energía aumenta con una serie de actividades interactivas enfocadas en ayudar tanto a estudiantes como al equipo a conocerse y discutir sobre el musical que los estudiantes crearán bajo la guía del personal. Me complace ver lo rápido y bien que los estudiantes han respondido a las actividades, logrando mostrar sus personalidades y talentos.
I’m truly looking forward to seeing the group grow in skills and confidence as the workshop progresses and I know that the performances will be outstanding.
